Chile sees flurry of mining permit applications in February

Chile’s environmental evaluation service (SEA) received 10 mining-related projects for consideration in February involving a combined US$1.24bn in planned investment, according to data compiled by BNamericas.

The figure compared to seven projects worth a combined US$498mn in January, and nine projects involving US$315mn in December.

In total, SEA received 55 projects last month, of which 34 involving total planned investment of US$1.744bn were accepted for evaluation. The other 21, worth a combined US$291mn, were rejected or withdrawn on technical grounds, SEA documents show.

Two mining-related initiatives, each worth US$1.3mn, were rejected.
